How to put in motion your Communication Journey?

A communication strategy defines your objectives (why you want to do it?), target audiences (for whom?), messages (what you want to say), channels (how you want to say it?), actions (what you want to do?) and performance indicators (how to measure and evaluate it?).


The two words information and communication are often used interchangeably, but they signify quite different things. Information is giving out; communication is getting through.

Why

A communication strategy lays the foundations of “what you want to achieve” in terms of communication and enables you to move from where you are now to “where you want to be”.


How

  • Engage with your project partners, both internally and externally.

  • Understand the program priorities and objectives.

  • Set your communication objectives. They should be SMART: Specific, Measurable, Agreed upon, Realistic, and Time-bound.

  • Identify your activities and integrated multi-touchpoint channels (traditional and digital) and choose the best and cost-efficient ones.


Whom

Define your target audience(s), as well as their interests, needs, characteristics, and attitudes to determine the focus of your activities and messages.


What

Choose your messages, according to each objective and audience with a corresponding key message as a hook to attract them and address their interests.


Measure

Set your KPIs, measure and evaluate your return-on-attention ROA, return-on-relationships ROR, and return-on-investment ROI.





So, why communication is important?
